On Monday we will be visiting The Harrogate Bridal Show, the largest bridal trade show in the UK. It's an exciting task to be choosing new dresses to have in store but as a newcomer to the industry I did not anticipate how difficult it would be.
We are lucky to be stockists of three very successful designers here at The Wedding Room - Stella York, Lillian West and Christina Wu. The brands work well for our brides and we genuinely believe in the dresses we stock, however... we are on the lookout for something different to enhance our collection. We have spent a good few hours browsing designers and styles, colours, fabrics and shapes and have just about agreed on what we want.
Mary and I do not always agree on which dresses we want. The 'Boho' feel, the intricate and detailed fabrics and slightly quirky dresses shout to her while the clean, sleek lines of a fitted crepe number or the simple elegance of a dove satin whisper 'hello' to me.
I guess you will have to watch this space to see which way we go, follow us at on Instagram or on Facebook to find out !
Everyone remembers the day they chose their wedding dress. I do, even though my wedding was 16 years ago tomorrow. I never wanted a big day or a big dress and when my Mum and I found this one it felt so right. I felt amazing in it and I love it to this day.
I’m separated now but my interest in weddings has only grown stronger - not for myself right now but to be part of that magic moment a woman slips into a wedding dress, steps up onto the podium, sees herself in the mirror and just knows it’s the one. I don’t think I will ever tire of seeing that emotion.
Fashions change - as you can see from my choice from 2003 - but the feeling remains, even though I would choose something totally different now.
The wedding dress you choose will forever hold such special memories.
There has been a recent shift in wedding dress fabrics with the recent introduction of crepe fabric in several designers collections. None so better executed than Stella York's collection for 2018 and now showing in 2019.
So what's to love about this new wedding dress fabric? Simple. It's so beautifully fluid. It falls and drapes like no other fabric. It clings in all the right places and teams fabulously with lace.
Here are a few designs we currently have in store which are causing stir. I think you can see why?
A sleek, slim fitting and sexy sheath silhouette is made from lace and crepe and is adorned with sparkling beadwork. French-inspired lace is positioned throughout the body and sits low on the hips creating much-desired curves. Wide, curved seaming adds shape and fit to the flared skirt, which is finished with the most amazing signature laser-cut lace cathedral train. Deep side cutouts are highlighted by lattice stitching and delicate sheer panels. The open back of this modern wedding dress is the real star of the show, what a show stopper. Beaded pearl micro straps criss-cross in the back and meet at the low-cut sheer back. Elegant fabric-covered buttons line the back over a zipper closure. Perfect for any beach wedding.
A modern high neckline to the front meets an elegant backless silhouette in this amazing wedding dress . Lace and fluid crepe create a sexy figure hugging silhouette complete with a signature laser-cut lace train and deep V-back. The lace-covered bodice has a modern halter neckline and floats down the sides of the hips with curved seams, creating structure and hugs the figure with ease. Soft sequin sparkles throughout the lace glisten subtly in the light, bringing attention to the small details which match the floating back straps details. This vintage-inspired wedding dress zips under elegant fabric covered buttons ( all the way down the centre back seam - dreamy) for a polished and sophisticated modern finish.
The only thing left to decide is which is your favourite?
